Mata Ortiz Pottery
An ancient tradition from the great Paquíme Culture has been reborn in an area that was once a major trading center in northern Chihuahua. New life is springing forth since the early 1970’s when Juan Quezada, a talented, self-taught potter began to replicate the ancient art of Paquíme. Visit this new generation of artisans in their homes and studios and purchase their unique creations. Paquíme was a hub of trade for ancient civilizations as far south as Meso America in Guatemala to the Mogollon civilization in New Mexico. Witness the ruins of Paquíme and the world class museum. You'll spend time with Spencer MacCallum and Juan Quezada. We'll also visit Hacienda San Diego. One of the many of 'land baron" Luis Terrazas' working ranches across northern Mexico.
