Enter Lent Season with the Mayo
The Mayo Indians celebrate the entry into Lent on Ash Wednesday and culminates on Easter (Semana Santa). This religious celebration is the most significant in all Latin America for Indegenous and Mestizo cultures. We will travel to Alamos, Sonora and vicinity to enjoy the accompanying festivities, which include the Fariseos (Pharisees) in full traditional dress as they begin the 40-day religious observances. The tour includes ample time in Alamos and in the Mayo villages of Júpare and Masiaca. We’ll also visit the most complete collection of Mayo and Yaqui folk art in northern Mexico. This trip features spectacular food and experiences you won’t want to miss.
This departure is sponsored the Arizona Historical Society.
